We are out under Sheffield's extraction every week. The proof that matters is the jobs, not a stock photo.

At an electronics assembly plant in Sheffield the solder-fume extraction was running, but the operators had quietly switched several of the tip arms off - which shoved the pressure and the noise up on the ones still open. We measured face velocity at all twelve soldering tips, checked the main unit's static pressure and rebalanced the dampers until the pull was even across every bench. The duty

Fourteen months, and whose name is on it

COSHH Regulation 9 puts a hard duty on the employer: any LEV controlling a hazardous substance must have a thorough examination and test at least every fourteen months, with records kept for five years.

For most Sheffield sites the fourteen-month clock is the one that bites - miss it and the system is non-compliant the day it lapses, whatever its condition. We examine, label each hood with its status and next-due date, and issue the report an HSE inspector or your insurer will ask to see. What happens if our LEV fails?

We record it as remedial and set out what is needed - airflow, ductwork, filtration or capture at the hood. You do the work and we re-test, and on a Waverley or AMP production line we can usually fit the re-test around your shifts. We will not pass a system that does not control exposure.
