Local knowledge
The Romans settled Prestatyn around 70 AD on an earlier Iron Age site, and the settlement grew into a working place: excavations have shown bronze working here, and a coastal harbour used to export lead and silver dug from the mines in the hills at Meliden and Graig Fawr just inland. A Roman bathhouse was dug from the ground here in the 1930s, its hypocaust flue-tiles stamped by the Twentieth Legion's works at Holt on the Dee - proof that industry sat on this coast long before the caravans did.
